JOB DESCRIPTION
GIS ASSET MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST
Supervised By: Business Intelligence and Data Coordinator
Supervises: None
Position Summary:
Geographic Information System (GIS) data and resources to fulfill enterprise information needs throughout
all organization service areas. Work is performed independently. Provides technical, project and software
support for Geographical Information System (GIS), CAD and Asset Management applications, and
GIS/Asset Management data management. Provides GIS data sets, reports, and analysis as needed.

1. Responsible for entering and managing data within the City geographic information system.
2. Instructs others how to locate and generate informative data from the GIS.
3. Creates maps, drawings, and maintains GIS pertaining to municipal construction projects and city
infrastructure, utilizing computer-aided design software.
4. Modifies existing maps and drawings to comply with design changes developed by engineers.
5. Updates GIS to reflect infrastructure additions, improvements, and other changes.
6. Performs research pertaining to deeds and descriptions. Writes and checks legal descriptions for
properties and easements. Provides utility, property, parcel and legal description information to
City departments, businesses, contractors and the public.
7. Orders specialized software and hardware for the Department, ensuring Departmental needs will
be met with the new or upgraded technology.
8. Accesses approved City databases to extract and refine data for GIS mapping needs.
9. Provide field data acquisition support and training.
10. Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

• Demonstrated knowledge of the ESRI GIS software products, including ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced,
ArcSDE, and related geospatial functions, including geodatabase design and management, spatial
analysis, and cartographic product management.
• Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
• Understanding of asset management system integration with Esri products. Previous experience
working with Cartegraph asset management systems preferred.
• Experience collecting features using Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology.
• Intermediate to advanced experience using Esri software products, including: ArcGIS for Desktop
Advanced and ArcSDE.
• Strong proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
• Experience using AutoDesk design products (e.g. AutoCad Map 3D)

• Thorough knowledge and understanding of drafting techniques and the layout of underground and
above-ground utilities.
• Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including Microsoft Suite applications and software
specific to the department, and the ability to master new technologies.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgement, initiative and
resourcefulness when dealing with property owners, employees, contractors and the public.
• Skill in reading and constructing maps and diagrams, in reading and writing legal property
descriptions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office. While in the office, the
employee is regularly required to communicate in person and by telephone, read regular and small print,
view and produce written and electronic documents and enter data on a computer keyboard with
repetitive keystrokes. The employee must be mobile both in an office setting and in the field with the
ability to stand, sit, stoop and kneel, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must lift or push/pull objects of up to 25 lbs. without assistance. Accommodation will be
made, if needed, for employees required to lift or move objects that exceed this weight.
