Tolstedt ��rr/ugt��r School Resource Officer / Community Patrol Officer Position Overview Position Description and Expectations Introduction This document outlines the responsibilities, schedule, and expectations for a newly established School Resource Officer (SRO) position that integrates dual responsibilities as both an SRO and a Community Patrol or Road Patrol Officer. This is a pilot position and may be subject to adjustments based on operational needs and the evolving demands of the department and the school. Position Summary The officer assigned to this position will serve in a dual capacity, splitting their time evenly between School Resource Officer duties and those of either a Community Patrol Officer or Road Patrol Officer. The anticipated time commitment is approximately 50% in the school setting and 50% in patrol or community engagement roles. The officer will receive the necessary SRO training prior to or upon beginning their assignment. The SRO job description is attached. Schedule and Work Hours The officer will generally work school -day hours, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, in alignment with the standard school schedule. Please see the example schedule below. The rotation is intended to ensure coverage and flexibility, but is subject to change based on department needs, school activities, or special events. Rotating Two-week schedule: Week 1. Tolstedt Uniform Requirements • While assigned to SRO duties: The standard uniform will consist of khakis and an authorized department pullover, or other approved variations as authorized by department leadership. • While performing patrol or community officer duties: The officer is expected to wear the standard Class B uniform in accordance with departmental policy. Expectations and Flexibility • The officer is expected to be present during scheduled SRO days and attend school functions as needed. While the goal is consistent in -school presence, we recognize occasional absences may occur. • Due to the hybrid nature of this position and the dynamic nature of both school and community needs, officers must maintain a high level of flexibility and adaptability. Days assigned to school duties may shift based on school events or departmental priorities. • Clear and proactive communication with both school administration and department supervisors is essential to ensure coverage and coordination. Training and Development The officer will complete School Resource Officer training, including any continuing education as required by the department or relevant regulations. Additional training may be provided to support the dual nature of the position. Conclusion This dual -role SRO position is new to our department and represents an evolving approach to school and community safety. As such, officers assigned to this role should anticipate periodic review of the position's structure and the potential for adjustments.
